The specialised police technical response unit on Saturday (11 November) arrested five suspects for possession of abalone worth R3.5m in Pelican Street in Sunbird Park.
According to Mfuleni Police spokesperson Captain Nomathemba Muavha the suspects, four males and one female between the ages of 18 and 53 years, were arrested at about 01:00. “Three of the suspects are Zimbabwean nationals,” says Muavha.
She confirms that it was established that the abalone found was worth an approximate R3.5 million.
“The suspects were charged with possession of abalone and appeared in the Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court today (Monday 13 November),” says Muavha.
